Our Story
Otago Student Parents' Club (OSPC) was established in 2020 to support students parents in their studies and general well-being at the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic. The club is a student parent collective open to parents and allies who support our cause. We all believe that student parents have unique experiences and challenges, and with that, may require particular support services.
Studying is hard. Parenting is hard. Doing both at the same time – well, it requires a lot of effort. Many student parents wont have wider whānau support in Dunedin, so creating a support network is one of the key aims of OSPC. We want to unite our members to get the most out of our time studying. It can be extremely isolating as a student parent, and our study experience differs greatly from normal students, so we hope to provide a whānau-friendly environment and normalise our situations by fostering relationships with other student parents, and advocating for support from our education providers.
