Our Vision

Normalisation
Normalising being a student parent on campus, particularly a student mother. Although not all experiences will be the same, there are common challenges that being a student mother faces. This is why we also want to normalise and increase space for certain aspects of being a student parent on campus
o Breastfeeding and expressing on campus
o Having our tamariki present on campus
Academic support
Support student parents in their academic studies. Work with the University and Polytechnic to gain clarity around student parents’ responsibilities and rights, and develop these further.
Whakawhanaungatanga
Facilitate in building relationships between our student parents and whanau. We aim to hold regular social events, education/speaker events, and opportunities for student parents to get together with their whanau.
Understanding
Flexibility and understanding for when our tamariki need us. This includes measurable things such as ensuring policies are understanding of student parents’ obligations, as well as attitudes of staff towards student parents.
Spaces
Encourage the polytechnic and university toprovide physical whanau-friendly study spaces. As well as to create and maintain physical and social spaces that are family-safe and family-friendly.
Wellbeing
Support student parents in their general well-being by networking with other organisations and developing health promotion activities/information.
